Persian New Year in Marbella

Persian New Year, also known as Nowruz, falls on the 20th March in 2020 and is a time of celebration for many people across the world. Those who take part often see it as a time to shed the bad luck of the past year and start again, looking to the future with fresh hope. It’s also a day for many traditions, including a lot of tasty food.

How Persian New Year is Celebrated

Before you start cooking take a look at some of the key ways Persian New Year is celebrated:

  • ‘Shaking the house’ – This is the task of cleaning the home which is done in the days before the New Year.
  • Prepare a Haft-Sin table – This table is filled with symbolic items; wheat, vinegar, garlic, sumac, an apple, a
  • Persian olive, and a sweet pudding.
  • Chaharshanbe Suri – On the eve of the Wednesday before Persian New Year, the ritual of jumping over fires takes place. The fires are presentative of happiness and enlightenment for the New Year, which everyone hopes it will bring.
  • Street singers and dancers will celebrate the New Year.

Persian New Year Dished
